Clinton High School junior Rhylee Rodebush is building a reputation as a driven and team-focused varsity athlete, anchored by discipline, family support and a strong sense of accountability.
Rodebush, who primarily plays catcher, embraces one of softball’s most demanding positions. Beyond the physical toll, she is responsible for reading the game in real time. “The most difficult thing when catching is staying motivated when squatting for a long time and seeing and analyzing everything that is happening on the field,” she said.
Her approach at the plate reflects that same focus. Rather than overthinking, Rodebush keeps it simple. “I try not to think much at the plate. I also try to stay confident and think, ‘see ball, hit ball,’” she said.
Rodebush credits much of her growth to the people around her, especially her coaches and family. “My coaches have always seen potential in me and have always pushed me to be the best version of myself,” she said. She also points to her father’s work ethic and her grandfather’s consistent presence. “My grandpa watches all my games and never fails to tell me what I can fix, which inspires me to make those corrections.”
Off the field, Rodebush enjoys time with family, including her young niece, as well as playing pickleball and spending time with friends. In the classroom, she favors English, particularly when she can engage with meaningful writing topics.
Team culture is central to her experience. Rodebush values the relationships built through athletics. “Almost all of my closest friends have been on my sports teams at some point in time,” she said. She also emphasizes the importance of energy and communication, calling constant encouragement of teammates an essential unwritten rule of the sport.
Through athletics, Rodebush has developed skills that extend beyond competition. “It has taught me to be disciplined and structured,” she said. “It also has taught me how to take criticism and learn how to work as a team.”
