Clinton’s Ethan Lofland – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by TH Rogers Lumber Company

Ethan Lofland’s athletic journey is built on dedication and focus, as he passionately shares, “Sports are literally my life.” A sophomore at Clinton High School, Ethan pours himself into basketball, football, and track and field, but basketball is where his heart truly lies. “If I could do anything on a day I have free it would be to hoop,” he says. Starting in kindergarten, Ethan’s love for the sport took root in his first game, and since then, he has been “hooked on playing and getting better, day in and day out.”

Ethan’s ambition is clear in his goal “to play at [his] highest level from game one through the whole season.” While he isn’t certain of his role this season, he’s ready to step up in any way needed, sharing, “I believe that I can be one of our main scorers… I am ready and prepared to be any role player that we need.” The team’s chemistry also stands strong, as Ethan reflects on playing together over the summer, noting that their mix of “size” and “smaller guards great at handling pressure” will be an advantage.

Ethan’s dedication has been tested, particularly when he faced a major injury. “The biggest hurdle I had to overcome was when I tore my PCL,” he shares, recalling how physical therapy helped him recover during that challenging period. His most memorable moment so far? His debut varsity game, where he sank “2 clutch threes at the end of the game,” helping his team secure a win. It’s moments like these, backed by Clinton’s enthusiastic community support, that make basketball so rewarding. Ethan says, “When you make that tough three and can’t even hear your teammates… it’s such a surreal feeling.”

Looking ahead, Ethan hopes to play sports in college, with basketball being his main focus. However, if the opportunity doesn’t arise, he’s considering a future in HVAC. For now, his advice to younger players is simple yet powerful: “Stick with it. You never know what might happen.” As Ethan’s journey continues, his commitment to pushing his own limits makes him one to watch.
