This support will be benefiting Clinton STEM programs and teachers. Cindy Bond is one of the staff members benefiting from the donation.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your hobbies, your passions.

I love all things science!  And I love listening to all kinds of music. I like watching nature documentaries, going on hikes, watching my son at his marching band competitions, and watching movies. Harry Potter is my jam…I even have a HP tattoo! One of my all-time favorite vacations was getting to go Harry Potter world at Universal Studios.

What classes do/did you teach?

This year I am teaching biology and chemistry, but I have taught 7th/8th grade science, physical science, zoology, anatomy, and AP biology as well.

Where did you go to college and what led you into teaching?

I went to SWOSU and majored in Natural Science Education with an emphasis in Biology and a minor in chemistry.  I was led into teaching because of my high school science teacher, Mrs. Nyla Watson.  I thought she was the smartest lady and I wanted to be just like her.

Who mentored you into the educator you are today?

There are many teachers whom I could mention.  From teachers I had as a child to the many wonderful teachers I have worked with.  I had a great first year mentor at Mustang, Mrs. Jean Burns.  Every school I have worked at, I have learned something valuable from someone. From Clinton, Mrs. Marie Pool and Mr. Ron Smith took me under their wings my first couple of years here and I will be forever grateful for their guidance.

What do you love about teaching?

I love the “lightbulb” moment.

What is great about your current school?

If I need or want anything, all I have to do is ask.  Clinton takes care of its teachers.  From back to school stipends, to grants, to whatever else, Clinton knows how to support their teachers.

The People of Oklahoma Oil and Natural Gas are committed to supporting STEM education. Why is teaching Science and Math so important?

I’ve always heard Biology is really chemistry, chemistry is really physics, and physics is really math.  So one cannot do science without math.  I think they’re so important because a) like I always tell my students, numbers are like Shakira’s hips, they don’t lie! lol and b) all of the processes, formulas, etc, you’re learning now, you may never use later in life, but now you are learning HOW to learn.  Learning HOW to think.  And learning HOW to apply what you’re being taught. Plus in addition, you are a living creature so you need to know how and why your body does what it does and you need to know how to take care of yourself and your potential future family.
