Clinton High School’s Kalyssa Staggs is a junior and a member of the varsity volleyball and soccer teams as well as the FFA chapter at school. Staggs said she grew up playing soccer and basketball but didn’t start in FFA until she was a freshman. “I grew up playing soccer and basketball. Since I was three years old, I have been playing soccer for Clinton. I played basketball for six years and I didn’t start volleyball until eighth grade. Although I haven’t been playing volleyball as long, I have developed a great love for the sport. I started FFA my freshman year. No really encouraged me to join, it was just something I had been wanting to do
since I was little,” said Staggs. Being a two-sport athlete at Clinton has been fun for Staggs. “Clinton is a great place to be a student athlete because it is my hometown. I’m proud to represent Clinton in all my activities because it’s where I grew up and younger student athletes recognize me and look up to me. My favorite thing this season is being a starter on varsity and becoming a family with my teammates and
coaches,” said Staggs. As a member of the FFA chapter, Staggs is involved in many activities that she enjoys. “In FFA, I do livestock showing, work on various projects, participated in land judging, livestock judging, and public speaking. I have entered various county, district, and state competitions in all of the above.
I have also made the State FFA Chorus the past two years and made the National FFA Chorus this year. My favorite thing to do in FFA is showing livestock and participating in the choruses,” said Staggs. Also, a member of advanced chorus, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Staggs said anyone interested in FFA should give it a try. “If are interested in joining FFA, my advice would be to go for it. There are so many activities that you can do, and you can find something that fits your interests. FFA is a great organization and helps kids come out of their shell and find somewhere they belong,” said Staggs.
Staggs said she is undecided on what she would like to study in college, but said she is interested in ag related fields as well as working with children.
