At the Clinton vs Weatherford football game, Clinton’s Principal Michelle Sorter was presented a check for Science and Math education at Clinton High School by the people of Oklahoma Oil & Natural Gas. 

One of the teachers who will benefit from this donation is Whitney Misak who teaches Biology, Zoology, and Anatomy and Physiology at Clinton High. 

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Your hobbies, your passions.

I am one of the high school science teachers at Clinton High School and the head softball coach.  My hobbies include spending time with my family, sports of any kind, and occasionally being crafty when needed. 

What classes do you teach?

I teach Biology, Zoology, and Anatomy and Physiology. 

Where did you go to college and what led you into teaching?

My undergraduate is from Tennessee Technological University and my masters degree is from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.  I was not initially led to teaching.  Both my parents are teachers so like any high school kid I wanted to be anything that my parents weren’t.  

Who mentored you into the educator you are today?

My mother was my biggest influence on the teaching profession.  She had taught me from a young age what a world class teacher looked like and what went into being a good teacher.  My first teaching job was actually working with her at her preschool.  Where I first got to see the impact that a teacher can have on a student and the joy that it has on many people.  As a high school teacher I will never forget my first year and Alisa Boecker being my mentor teacher.  Since I did not go into education through the traditional avenues she was there to guide and support me with the millions of questions I had.  She is still someone who I can go to for advice and direction.  

What do you love about teaching?

I love teaching for the relationships that I get the opportunity to build with my students.  Having the chance to be a difference maker in one or all of their lives is all I really want. 

What is great about your current school?

Clinton is great in so many ways. I have never been in a place where I felt that my voice and opinion was valued and heard.  It does not matter if it is a fellow teacher, principals, or superintendent they are all listening and trying their hardest to make it a better place for everyone.

Why is teaching Science and Math important?

I believe that science and math are the building blocks to everything in life.  So, to try and put into words the importance that I place on the both of them would be an impossible task.
