Underclassman to Watch – Clinton Volleyball’s Lexie Conway – Presented by Mane St. Lion’s Den

Sophomore Lexie Conway plays setter and right side hitter for the Clinton Red Tornado volleyball team. When Conway first picked up volleyball back in junior high she never expected to enjoy the sport as much as she does today. “I first started playing volleyball in the seventh grade,” Conway said. “I didn’t think I would love volleyball as much as I do today.” While Conway loves to compete, what she enjoys most is the bonds she is able to form with teammates and the friendships she makes on and off the court.

“My favorite aspect of volleyball of this sport would be its ability to bring people together,” Conway said. “We all have so much fun while playing the sport.” Conway has learned many valuable lessons over the years while playing volleyball and will continue to incorporate these values into her day to day life. The lessons taught in volleyball about being a team player or leader apply to many aspects of life and not just the competition. “I think some good qualities of a leader and teammate is someone who is hard working, having a great attitude, and being able to hold themselves and others accountable,” Conway said. As Conway continues her sophomore year of high school she is working toward accomplishing some goals she has set for herself.

“My goal in volleyball this year would be becoming a better teammate for the upcoming years,” Conway said. “My goal academically is to keep getting good grades.” When it comes to inspirational figures Conway said that one person she looks up to is Nicklin Hames, a setter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s volleyball team. When Conway finishes high school she would like to attend college and hopes to have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level just like Hames. For now, Conway is excited to continue competing throughout the season and hopes to end it on a high note with the rest of her teammates.
