VYPE: Where did you get your start coaching and where did you originally graduate from?
Jefferson: I started my coaching career in Garden City, Kansas in 1991 on the staff of my old high school coach Dave Meadows. I graduated from Clinton High School in 1983.
VYPE: What is the message to the athletes at Clinton under your guidance and leadership?
Jefferson: Success is by design and never by default. It doesn’t happen overnight or without sacrifice. You have to put in the time and effort, there is no other way around it.
VYPE: Do you have a coaching/teaching mentor? Someone you have looked up to or call on for advice?
Jefferson: The late Ron Engel was a coach I always looked up to and used to call for advice.
VYPE: Let me throw a few fun questions at you so everyone can get to know you a little better. Where is your favorite place for lunch or dinner if you’re eating out?
Jefferson: I like Texas RoadHouse or Cheddars when I get a chance to eat out.
VYPE: Do you have any hobbies?
Jefferson: My hobbies include spending time with my family and carpentry.
VYPE: Favorite sports team from the college or pro ranks?
Jefferson: I like the Dallas Cowboys and OKC Thunder and for college I like both OU, OSU and NWOSU where I played college football.
VYPE: Your favorite sports movie?
Jefferson: Glory Road is probably my favorite sports movie.
VYPE: First concert you attended?
Jefferson: I’ve been to one concert, my daughter won Brittany Spears concert tickets back in 2002. So I took my 9 year old daughter to that concert.
VYPE: Have you ever visited another country? If so, where?
Jefferson: No, I’ve never been to another country.
VYPE: Tell me what you have come to love most about Clinton, your athletes and where is the future of the program headed?
Jefferson: The diversity of our community and how the student body all work together. Our athletes have a blue collar mentality, we strive to outwork our opponents. As far as where programs are headed in the future I believe what we do here is a formula for winning. Our high school motto is we build champions.
