Clinton’s Des Meacham – Mom of the Month – Presented by S&D Drug

Des Meacham embodies the spirit of a dedicated “sports mom” at Clinton High School, where her unwavering support and tireless efforts uplift the entire athletic community. Her journey as a sports mom is a testament to the passion and dedication she brings to her role, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.

“I love the daily grind of sports practice, homework, games, late nights, early mornings, blood, sweat and tears it takes to be successful,” Des shared, reflecting on the joys and challenges of being deeply involved in her child’s athletic journey. For Des, being a sports mom means being an active participant in the routine aspects that contribute to her child’s success.

Driven by her love for sports and children, Des does whatever she can to ensure the sports programs thrive. “The love of sports and kids is what drove me to go above and beyond for the sports programs,” she explained.

Des’s journey into sports involvement began with coaching little league basketball, gradually evolving into a pivotal role within the booster club. “I made sure the kids were fed before every game,” she recalled, emphasizing her dedication to nurturing young athletes from grassroots levels. “Now, I manage fundraisers and camps to get younger athletes started into the sports programs early.”

Among Des’s fondest memories is the exhilarating victory of her daughter, Kat, during the 2021 state championship. “Kat with her last throw of the day knew she had to throw a PR to win the championship, and she did just that,” Des reminisced, cherishing the triumphant moment for her daughter.

For Des, being an involved parent transcends the sidelines; it’s about fostering a sense of community and support. “I’m blessed to be surrounded by great coaches and administrators that encourage and welcome involvement.”

Her greatest achievement lies in creating a sense of family within the teams. “I want each team to feel part of my family,” Des expressed, highlighting her commitment to fostering camaraderie and unity among athletes.

In Des’s journey, she’s grateful for the support of fellow moms and community members: “It takes a village.”

As she looks ahead, Des remains thankful for the unwavering support of coaches, teachers and administrators. “It’s always a great day to be a Red Tornado!”
