Clinton’s Rhylee Rodebush – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Jeff Carlisle, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Insurance

There’s a special kind of grit that comes with being a multi-sport athlete, and Clinton’s Rhylee Rodebush brings that mindset into every season. “I play multiple sports,” she said. “So, my goal is to use my other sports as a tool to gain strength. I’m also in a weightlifting class to help stay injury free.” For Rhylee, everything is connected—each sport fueling her growth in the next.

As a thrower in both shot put and discus, staying sharp year-round is essential, and the summer months offer plenty of opportunities. “This summer there have been several camps offered to stay in practice,” she explained. Whether it’s learning new technique or simply staying in rhythm, Rhylee knows success begins in the offseason.

Track and field are more than just a sport for Rhylee—it’s a legacy. “Both my older sisters were also involved in Clinton Track,” she said. “Over the years I’ve seen how coach Cory Strahorn has built the program. We got a new track; the coaches and school continue to invest in the program and athletes. Our throwing program is well built and turns out collegiate athletes. The throwing program is like family.”

That family mentality extends across the team, and many of Clinton’s athletes benefit from being multi-sport competitors. “Most of our athletes are in other sports keeping them in shape,” Rhylee said. “We’re continuing to work hard.”

While talent is vital, Rhylee believes the real advantage lies in the coaching staff. “I think the biggest strength we have right now is the coaches,” she said. “They push us to our full potential and believe in our ability.”

When meet day arrives, Rhylee is strategic in her preparation. “I like to look at who my competition is—what grade they are in and their PR,” she shared. But when it’s time to compete, she stays focused. “I try and relax and use my abilities vs. getting worked up or in my own head.”

She steps into the ring with one thought in mind: “To put my practice into play and throw far.”

Rhylee hopes to be remembered not just for distance, but for dedication. “I want my legacy to be someone who worked hard, led by example, and kept or exceeded the standard for throwers at Clinton—not just in results, but in mindset, dedication, and being a leader.”
