Clinton’s Lexie Conway – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Jeff Carlisle – Oklahoma Farm Bureau

When Lexie Conway first stepped onto the volleyball court in seventh grade, it was all for laughs. “I knew nothing about the sport, and I actually joined as a joke,” Lexie admitted. Yet, what began as a humorous venture turned into a passion that has defined her high school years at Clinton High School.

Lexie, now a 16-year-old senior, has become a key player for her team, serving as a setter.

Preparation and dedication define Lexie’s approach to her role. “I spend time in the gym setting and working on stuff regarding volleyball,” she explained. Her goals for the 2024 season are straightforward yet significant: “I hope to have a successful season and to just have fun.”

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges, the most poignant being the loss of her father. “He was always at games and was my biggest supporter,” she shared. “I am currently still overcoming it by just continuing to play and getting used to it.”

Looking ahead, Lexie doesn’t see herself continuing volleyball at a competitive level in college. Instead, she plans to pursue a career in nursing or kinesiology.

Community support is crucial to Lexie and her performance. “It makes the other players want to show out for the community,” she said. Her advice to younger players is to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process. “It’s perfectly fine if you make mistakes; we all do it. Just don’t let it bring you down and keep trying!”

As Lexie prepares for her future beyond high school, she remains grateful for the support of her family, particularly her grandmother who stepped in after her father’s passing. “I would like to thank my father for showing up to everything he could, and my grandma for taking his place and showing up for me when he is not there,” she expressed with heartfelt appreciation.

Lexie Conway’s journey from a casual joke to a standout volleyball player at Clinton High School is a testament to her athleticism, passion and the power of community and family support.
