Seventeen-year-old Malachi Lorne’s journey into football began in the fifth grade, setting the stage for a promising career with the Clinton Red Tornadoes. Inspired by NFL star Ezekiel Elliott, Malachi credits his coaches and teammates as his biggest influences, reflecting the deep bond and support system that fuels his passion for the game.
This season as a senior, Malachi is optimistic about the team’s chemistry. “I think the team’s chemistry will be better than it was last year, and we will stick together as a team,” he said. As a playmaker, Malachi’s preparation involves meticulous training. “My specific role is to make plays, and I prepare by studying, knowing the formations and narrowing it down to 2-3 plays they like to run,” he explained.
Malachi’s aspirations for the 2024 season are clear and ambitious. “My goal for this season is like any other team—the gold ball,” he said, aiming for the ultimate prize in high school football. His training regimen is rigorous, focusing on strength, conditioning and overall athleticism. “Quite a bit of strength and conditioning, studying, and working on being a better all-around athlete.”
Overcoming injuries has been one of the most challenging moments in Malachi’s career. “I overcame it by stretching more, not being hard-headed and letting it rest,” he said. A highlight of his season was the game against Elk City, where the defense made crucial stops on the goal line.
Looking ahead, Malachi envisions himself in college, pursuing wrestling and aiming to become an All-American, perhaps even a national champion. “I see myself in college wrestling and being an All-American, maybe national champ,” he said. His plans also include majoring in architecture, blending his athletic and academic aspirations.
Community support plays a significant role in Malachi’s performance, especially during away games. “Either way, I’m going to play to my best ability, but they play a role when we are at away games, and the stands are packed with Clinton fans,” he acknowledged. His advice to younger players is simple yet profound: “Stick with it—it’ll come along with hard work.”
Outside of football, Malachi’s interests include wrestling and anime. Reflecting on his career at Clinton High School, he expresses gratitude for meeting Coach Lee, a pivotal figure in his development. “Meeting coach J. Lee” stands out as his proudest moment.
As Malachi Lorne prepares to graduate, he extends heartfelt thanks to his family, coaches, teammates and God for their unwavering support throughout his athletic journey.
